Pearsall: In dulci jubilo

The well-known setting which is often performed at the King's College 'Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols'. Made by Bristolian composer Robert Lucas Pearsall in 1834 (but using a much earlier style - making it ideal for recorders). 2xSATB.

Willaert: Two Motets

Willaert is one of the most important composers of the mid-16th century. These two motets are taken from the second edition of his 'Liber Primus' (1545). They bridge the gap between Josquin Desprez and Giovanni Gabrieli. Fairly easy. ATTB

Hassler: Two Madrigals

Hassler studied in Venice with Andrea Gabrieli, where he absorbed the new Italian style which was soon to spread across most of Europe. These two five-part pieces 'La bella Filli' and 'Care lagrime mie' are taken from his 'Madrigali' (1596). SATTB

Hassler: Chi vuol veder

Hassler studied in Venice with Andrea Gabrieli, where he absorbed the new Italian style which was soon to spread across most of Europe. This 8-part, two choir piece is the equal of Giovani Gabrieli. Some parts suitable for windcaps. SATB, ATTB

Keith Rogers: Leaves be Still Green

Keith Rogers borrows the 'Browning' theme and the variation techniques of the Tudor composers, with a distinct nod in the direction of Byrd. He reworks them into an interesting contemporary piece which will appeal to the int / adv consort. SATB

Keith Rogers: Flippancy

A 'fun' encore for a good consort. When the audience isn't trying to identify the many fragments of well-known tune which bubble up out of this entertaining piece it will be thinking 'did they really just play that?' Requires style and panache. SSATB

Keith Rogers: Two-Tone Rag

Gabrieli meets Scott-Joplin for a bitonal relationship. A tremendously entertaining two choir piece which requires confident playing and much 'sticking to one's guns'. Definitely not one for the tonally monogamous. SATB,ATBGb

Four Scottish street scenes set in the quiet Edinburgh suburb of Buckstone. We go walking in the wood, cycling around the Dell, roller blading in the neuk and sledging in the park. SAT

Susanna Faire

A salacious Biblical story in two settings by sixteenth century composers. The versions given here are taken from the influential English publication Musica Transalpina, often credited with introducing the Italian madrigal style into England. SATTB

In spite of the moral tone of its words (O Mortal Man, how long wilt thou remain drowned in sin? etc) this is a lively and attractive piece which has gone down well with all who have played it. SAATB
