It is to the Kent Branch of the SRP that we must this time be grateful for calling forth this splendid example of a genre in which Mr Bloodworth excels. It was to them a tenth-birthday present. The movements are Latin-American Rondo, Blues, Charleston and Quickstep. The greater weight of the lower instruments in the score makes for richer textures which are well exploited and the characters of the separate movements are skilfully realised. Crafty scoring, imaginative harmony and athletic rhythms all combine to make these pieces most enjoyable.
